League of Women Voters Condemns Supreme Court Ruling Dismantling the Bedrock of the Civil Rights Movement Impact of Louisiana vs. Callais
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling that significantly weakens the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In a 6–3 decision, the Court struck down Louisiana's majority Black congressional district, finding that the state's use of race in drawing the map was unconstitutional. The LWV of the Syracuse Metro Area hosts a series of monthly and annual events. These are a great way to get out and meet other volunteers and learn about what we do at the local level.
